Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, GEF CEO and Chairperson:
This contribution to the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund reflects Germany’s continued leadership for the environment, building on its record of strong support for action on biodiversity, climate change, and pollution at the Global Environment Facility. It is also significant as, combined with already-announced commitments to the fund by Canada and the United Kingdom, the GBFF has now passed the $200 million mark, which will allow for its operationalization. We look forward to a first meeting of the GBFF in early 2024 with projects funded by the end of next year.
