Dialogue with Multilateral Environmental Agreement Secretariats (MEAs) and the GEF

On May 22, 2017, at the margins of the 52nd GEF Council, the GEF held the Third Informal Dialogue with Secretariats of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs). High-level representatives from the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS), the Interim Secretariat of the Minamata Convention on Mercury, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) participated. Other participants included various GEF Council Members and country representatives, representatives from the GEF Secretariat, and representatives from GEF Agencies.

The dialogue celebrated the early adoption of the Minamata Convention and the International Day for Biological Diversity. It brought into attention the feedback received from MEAs as of the first replenishment meeting on GEF-7, highlighting cross-cutting elements, and the continued engagement of the GEF Secretariat with the MEAs on the replenishment process. It also created an opportunity for sharing updates on key recent guidance to the GEF and highlighting convention-specific priorities for the GEF-7 replenishment.
